What are the Railroad Commission's Serious LP Gas Safety Violations?

The Railroad Commission of Texas recently shared with us the following LP Gas Safety Rules, which can be considered a serious violation. It may result in a warning letter or trigger the administrative process that often results in a fine:

  • Distance violations. NFPA 58 §6.4 through §6.5 and LP-Gas Safety rule §9.142(1)

  • Coverings over containers. LP-Gas Safety rule §9.141(f)

  • Licensing and decal violations LP-Gas Safety rule §113.081, §9.132 and §9.202.

  • School Pressure test requirements. LP-Gas Safety rule §9.41.

  • Disabled or bypassed safety devices LP-Gas Safety rule §9.143

Standard violations may become serious violations if they occur multiple times. i.e., Violations that show a pattern of behavior.

A combination of violations may become a serious violation. Several minor violations that, as a whole, cause a serious situation may be considered a serious violation.

This is not an exhaustive list, and the priorities of the RRC leadership may shift over time.
